Common Applications of Nitrogen for Blanketing and Other Sectors

One of nature's most common chemical compounds, elemental nitrogen, accounts for a substantial portion of air. Gaseous nitrogen has been used in numerous industrial manufacturing processes, including beverage preparation, fertilizer production, pharmaceutics, oil and gas recovery, and electronics manufacturing.

What Is Nitrogen Blanketing?
Nitrogen for blanketing is nitrogen gas (N₂) introduced into an enclosed space to displace oxygen and create an inert atmosphere. The nitrogen blanketing process is often used during storing or transporting flammable liquids or chemicals, as it can help prevent fires or explosions.

Nitrogen generators are commonly used for this purpose. A nitrogen generator takes in air from the atmosphere. It separates the nitrogen molecules from the other gases through membrane separation or pressure swing adsorption (PSA). This nitrogen-rich gas is then sent to the storage vessel, displacing the oxygen and creating an inert atmosphere.

Nitrogen Blanketing in Industries:
Nitrogen is often used for blanketing and purging pipelines because it is inert, meaning non-reactive. In addition, nitrogen for blanketing is often used in chemical Industries, Pharma Industries, Heat treatment Industries etc.

How can MVS engineering help you?

Operational Techniques of an Industrial Oxygen Generator

Oxygen is needed for the oxidation of different materials during the stages of industrial production. It is inconvenient and expensive to buy oxygen cylinders to meet the bulk requirements of this gas. Hence, only an industrial oxygen generator can produce enough oxygen continuously to fulfil all these requirements.

Technology applied in an industrial oxygen generator:The prime goal of an oxygen generator is to separate oxygen from other gases present in the atmospheric air. It filters oxygen from the air through Zeolite molecules, which absorb nitrogen. Later, nitrogen is released back into the atmosphere through a vent line. Thus, 95% pure oxygen is produced for industrial uses, from 21% oxygen present in the surrounding air.

A PSA industrial oxygen generator consists of 2 containers filled with Zeolite molecules and alumina. All toxic elements are removed from the air, and their temperature is maintained at 30 degrees C while passing into this generator. The air enters a vessel, and only purified oxygen emerges out of that vessel while the nitrogen is absorbed there. When the molecules are too saturated with nitrogen, the oxygen purification process is automatically shifted to the second vessel through a valve. The absorbed nitrogen is then released into the air by taking off the pressure on it, which is termed the regeneration process.

MVS Engineering Pvt. Ltd offers this simple yet effective PSA oxygen generator for onsite generation of oxygen at a low cost. It also offers a VPSA generator that can produce greater amounts of oxygen where large-scale production is needed. Therefore, industries rely on the quality of these generators.

Medical Oxygen Gas Generators
Medical Oxygen Generators are commonly based on Pressure Swing Adsorption technology and are comprehensively utilized with an goal to provide oxygen in hospitals and other healthcare services. These generators are mainly used at places where using liquid oxygen, or handling pressurized gas may be hazardous or unsuitable. PSA technology-based oxygen generators are dependable and minimal effort systems for all types of oxygen generation.

Use of Medical Oxygen Generators in the current times
In these unprecedented times, healthcare centers around the world have realized the importance of Medical Oxygen Gas Generators. On-site generators are highly reliable, cost-effective, and the best solution that provides a high-purity, uninterrupted supply of oxygen gas. With the acceptance of European standards of 93% oxygen for use in hospitals, other healthcare centers, and disaster preparedness, hospitals can now eliminate the logistical problems related to the management of oxygen supply, cylinder filling, and management. Along with meeting their in-house oxygen needs, hospitals having on-site medical oxygen generators can also fill cylinders to provide backup and gas supply to remote locations.

How do medical oxygen generators work?
The ambient air consists of 78% nitrogen, 21%oxygen and 1% other gases. On-site medical oxygen systems separate out oxygen from the atmospheric air and help the user by delivering a high-purity, uninterrupted supply of oxygen.

MVS Oxygen plants
On-site oxygen generators have been in use all over the globe since the 1980s and MVS Engineering Pvt. Ltd., a leading manufacturer and exporter of all air and gas solutions since 1977, has been one of the best manufacturer of Medical Oxygen Generators since its innovation. The company tailors the generator according to the individual user’s needs. Generators by this company have proved to be the best when we discuss its efficiency, cost, and durability.

Do you know this about on-site nitrogen generators?

With developing technologies and increasing awareness, many industrialists have already switched to on-site generators. Many wonder how these generators work and the benefits of using them.

So, in this blog, we will talk about the different technology available in nitrogen generators and the benefits of using on-site plants.

Generating nitrogen on-site has three main advantages: eliminating wait time, delivering consistent purity, and lowering operational costs. And to produce nitrogen gas, there are 2 technologies available in on-site generators. These technologies are:

  1. Pressure Swing Adsorption technology
  2. Membrane technology

PSA Nitrogen Generators

  1. Ambient air is taken in through the intake valves and sent to Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS). CMS has tiny pores that filter out oxygen molecules and other unwanted gases. These tiny pores are just the perfect size for oxygen molecules that get absorbed in them. Nitrogen gas has larger molecules. Therefore, it does not get absorbed in the material and pass on undeterred through the CMS.
  2. Over a period of time, the CMS would have absorbed too many molecules of oxygen while separating the gases effectively. Therefore, PSA nitrogen generators are designed with two chambers- one to separate the gases and purge high-purity nitrogen to eliminate the build-up of oxygen. Generally, these generators switch between the chambers every 60 seconds.

Membrane Nitrogen Generators

  1. In this technology, dry, compressed air is filtered through hollow porous fibres where gas molecules and water precipitate into the air while nitrogen gas flows through the distribution system.
  2. In this process, when the flow of nitrogen is increased, the gas incorporates more oxygen resulting in lower nitrogen purity. When the flow of nitrogen gas is decreased, the purity of the gas will increase. But different purity levels can be achieved by adopting a number of membrane bundles that can satisfy the application.

Whether it is a start-up or a well-established organization, investing in on-site generators is the best thing any industrialist can do. If you are considering installing an on-site nitrogen generator for your operation, call the MVS Engineering team. The company has been a turnkey manufacturer and supplier of on-site generators since 1977 and has a commendable customer satisfaction record.
